  Dear Parents/Guardians,
I still can't copy and paste to this site.  I don't know what I am doing wrong.  Your child should be bringing the weekly newsletter home Monday as usual with the review of our week and upcoming events of this week.  Our state writing assessment is Tuesday, April 20.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and has a good breakfast.  Encourage your child to do his/her best.
Our story this week is "Three-Century Woman."  Since I cannot copy and paste to this site, go to Waltke's Web.com for the vocabulary and spelling words.  In math, we will review fractions, decimals, and percents.  The Unit 8 Assessment is scheduled for Friday.  In social studies, we will be reading and discussing "Ocean to Ocean."  Students will write one fact for each event, person, or place from that section.  Then each child will choose one topic to research and create a PowerPoint presentation.  I am still reading to them from Sign of the Beaver and teaching them to summarize.
The spelling homework has changed a little.  Their spelling tests are not as good as they were when they were doing all four sheets.  This week, the number of sheets assigned is based on the last spelling test:  A=1 sheet, B=2 sheets, C=3 sheets, D/F=4 sheets.  We will try this and see if spelling test scores go back up.  I'm not sending math homework this week.  Since we have practiced all four basic operations, I am making homework more individual.  I have been working with students individually and in small groups to see what they can do independently.  I will give each child the extra practice that he/she needs.  I hope to have this ready for next week.
As you will read in my newsletter, I am trying to keep students motivated to learn even though the weather is pretty, and spring fever has struck!  I am proud of their hard work and want it to continue.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child's education call me or e-mail me at tbbutler@access.k12.wv.us.
